How to Unblock Someone on Instagram
Just like on other social media platforms, Instagram allows you to block any user you want. Later, you can unblock them and regain access to their profile. There are three main methods you can use to remove a block on Instagram.
Unblock from Settings
- Go to your profile and tap the three-line menu in the top-right corner. Then select Settings → Privacy.
- In the Blocked Accounts section, you’ll see a list of everyone you’ve blocked.
- Tap Unblock next to the user you want to remove from the list.
Unblock from Chat
- If you previously had a conversation with the blocked user, open your chat list.
- Tap on the chat, then tap their profile picture at the top. Select Unblock to remove the restriction.
Unblock from Profile
- Open Instagram and use the search bar to type in the username of the person you blocked.
- Go to their profile and tap the Unblock button where the Follow button normally appears.
How to Block on Instagram

What Happens When You Block Someone on Instagram?
- The user will not receive any notification that you blocked them.
- Any likes or comments they previously made on your posts will be removed.
- They cannot tag you in posts or stories.
- Existing chats remain visible, but blocked users cannot send new messages to you (and you cannot send to them either).
- If you share a group chat, Instagram will ask whether you want to leave the group or stay.
- Blocked users cannot find your profile by searching your username. Similarly, if you are blocked, you cannot see their posts, followers, or following list.
